Roots and Shoots FlourishFest 2024

You're invited to Roots and Shoots' annual community event FlourishFest on Sunday May 19th, a day where we open our gates for all to visit our UNESCO award-winning gardens, with nature and creative activities, workshops and talks on urban gardening and stalls featuring delicious food and garden paraphernalia.

As an oasis in the heart of the city, Roots and Shoots is built on a polluted ex-brownfield site which no one would have thought so much nature could thrive in, so we've invited some brilliant speakers to talk about how you can transform outdoor spaces no matter the size into greener, more enjoyable and wildlife-friendly places with a range of talks and activities.

Across the site in our gardens, we'll be running a mix of wildlife activities and sessions including looking at aquatic life in our pond with pond dipping, identifying butterflies and caterpillars in our flowering borders and meadows with Butterfly Conservation, taking a look inside the hive with our beekeepers, and enjoying a calming morning garden meditation.

We are also running creative activities for all ages, include making a community wildflower meadow mural, cyanotype print-making with pollinating plants, decorating butterfly masks and covering our concrete with chalk foliage!

Entertainment will include live music, storytelling under the oak tree and more.
